Tinted Glass

Tinted glass is produced using the float glass process, where a small amount of metal oxide is added to a clear glass mixture to impart color.  Unlike coated glass, the color runs through the entire thickness. It reduces solar heat gain and cuts glare while maintaining good visible light transmission. At Lanmo Group we stock common architectural tints—Bronze, Grey, Green and Blue—in 3–12mm, available as full sheets or cut-to-size for façade and window projects.

Product Details

Key Features & Advantages

  • Integral Color: Pigment is mixed into the batch, so the color won't peel or scratch off like surface coatings.

  • Solar Heat & Glare Reduction: Absorbs a portion of solar radiation, helping reduce cooling loads in warm climates.

  • UV Blocking: Blocks a significant percentage of UV rays, slowing fading of interior furnishings.

  • Aesthetic Consistency: Uniform color across large façade areas; popular in Bronze and Grey for office buildings.

Available Colors & Typical Use

  • Bronze (Golden/Euro Bronze): Warm tone, commonly used in residential windows and hotel lobbies.

  • Grey (Euro/Dark Grey): Neutral, modern look for office curtain walls and commercial storefronts.

  • Green (F-Green / Dark Green): Often seen in sunrooms or as base glass for certain reflective units.

  • Blue (Ford Blue / Dark Blue): Decorative use in coastal-style buildings and showrooms.

FAQ

    • Q: Is tinted glass the same as reflective (coated) glass?

A: No. Tinted glass gets its color from the raw melt (body-tinted); reflective glass has a metallic coating. Tinted glass can be used as the base glass for reflective coating.

    • Q: Can tinted glass be tempered?

A: Yes, but darker colors absorb more heat in the furnace. We normally recommend 5mm+ for tempering and will advise proper parameters.

    • Q: Which color gives the most heat rejection?

A: Dark Grey and Dark Bronze generally absorb more solar energy than light tints. Final performance depends on glass thickness and whether it's part of an IGU.
